Quite depressing really, my feet failed again on the Border 600 this weekend. Could only manage 160km before it became too painful to continue. I think that's the end of my Paris Brest Paris aspiration.
I will be looking into it further, it's a physiological issue, seems my foot is prone to this and the training I've been doing is just making it worse. I'm thinking maybe a carbon fibre upgrade to my foot might help!
Have you considered trying toe clips and straps? If you pick the right pedal you would be able to spread the pedalling forces over much more of your foot, and also have a much wider choice of shoes.
Unfortunately it's not just cycling that is being affected. Quack says rest (ie stop riding so far) to reduce the inflammation then another look as to decisions re appropriate footwear. Right now I couldn't go for a long walk let alone a brevet
The other odd thing that helped me with the same problem on the Oppy was changing socks at every checkpoint. I took a few different types of socks and it seemed to help.

Sorry to hear that. Any chance of professional assistance to resolve the issues?
